Prayer of the Week

The Easter Vigil

O God, Creator of heaven and earth: Grant that, as the crucified body of your Son was laid in the tomb and rested on this holy Sabbath, so we may await with him the coming of the third day, and rise with him to newness of life; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Parking at Colorado College

We have checked with Campus Security at Colorado College, and the best place to park for all services will be the parking lot off Uintah Street at Tejon. From eastbound Uintah, turn right into the lot before you get to Tejon on the left. The fee system is not in effect during any of our service times. If you need to be closer to the chapel, please use the parking along southbound Nevada, or the lot next to Slocum Hall on Cache la Poudre between Nevada and Cascade. Shove Chapel is marked 12 on the attached campus map. Note that meters and parking zone restrictions are enforced by the city as marked.

From the Priest's Pen

Photo of Father Michael At Grace and St Stephen's Episcopal Church we have been blessed with an ever-expanding pastoral team of capable men and women to help me, as your pastor, to “equip the saints for the work of ministry for the building up of the body of Christ” (Eph. 4). To help you understand HOW we minister to the body of Christ at Grace, I have included a brief summary of the structure we will use to support small groups this year.

The Pastoral Team This group of men and women deals with things spiritual as they relate to the pastoral needs of the parish:
The Rev. Michael O’Donnell–Priest-in-Charge Pastor Jim Hinkle–Youth Ministry
The Rev. Marty Pearsall–Priest Assistant Helen Hazleton–Children’s Ministry
The Rev. John Pahls–Priest Assistant Ed Brown–Christian Education Ministry
The Rev. Sally Ziegler–Deacon/Woman’s Ministry Dr. John Hough–Men’s Ministry
The Pastoral Delivery System: Small Groups: Grace is not just a church with small groups; it is a small-group church. Small groups are the pastoral delivery system whereby the larger body of Christ at Grace is broken down into smaller, more manageable pastoral environments under the authority of Fr. Michael O’Donnell. Fr. Marty Pearsall will lead a team of group leaders, each of whom will be responsible for a set of small groups.

A complete list of the almost 30 small groups currently in operation will soon be detailed in a brochure which will be available on Sundays for your review.

The Impact Program: A mid-week Pastoral Team meeting once a month and, on the 4th Wednesday of every month, an all-groups meeting for Fellowship, Potluck, and Compline (the evening office of the Book of Common Prayer) at First Christian from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

Colorado College Community Kitchen

The Community Kitchen at Colorado College operates at Shove Chapel each Sunday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. This is an effort of the College to support homeless people from our area, as Marian House downtown does not serve meals on Sundays. They will operate as normal on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.

Last year when we worshiped at Shove Chapel, many of us donated desserts to make the Kitchen's Easter meal special. Shove Chapel would again welcome desserts on the two Sundays that we worship there. Just bring them to church with you, and we'll have a location to collect and deliver them to the kitchen. Thank you!

Commitment to Maturity Class

Father Michael has chosen the date of Sunday, April 13th for his second class in the Commitment series. The class will be held, as before, in the Chapel at First Christian Church from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with a snack break about 6:30 pm. The prerequisite for this class is attendance at the Commitment to Membership class held last month. If you meet this requirement and wish to attend, please contact Carol Nuss at 594 - 2079 or sign up at the Welcome Table at First Christian Church on the Sunday following Easter.

Legal Update -- March 10th Filings

Recent court filings by the attorneys acting on behalf of Grace CANA and the secessionist leadership included a Joint Affidavit of Initial Directors of Grace Church and St. Stephen's, in which some former vestry members claim that the "1973 Articles of Incorporation" "intentionally did not make any reference to or adopt any specific religious denomination or the Canons of any specific denomination" in support of the argument that Grace has not been an Episcopal church under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Colorado since 1973. The Joint Response of Grace Church and Individual Defendants to Pending Motions lays out many of the arguments underlying the secessionists' case for ownership of the parish property and is worth reading for those who are closely following these legal matters
